Per Christian Brown works with analogue photography, film and video and his projects converge on an exploration of nature and poetic imagination, psychology and biology. Central to all of his productions is the subtle relationship between image and viewer – the way images are born, develop, mature and resonate with the viewer. Images as semiotics, as codes, and the given cultural and biological factors that shape our view of the world, our inherited psyche and imagination, are key ideas in his works.

In recent years Brown has been systematically investigating the characteristics of the four natural elements and the way they are represented visually in poetry. The projects are based on French philosopher Gaston Bachelard’s (1884–1962) studies on the elements.

 

Per Christian Brown was born in Stavanger, Norway, in 1976 and graduated from the Oslo Academy of Fine Arts. Through group and solo exhibitions in Norway and abroad, he has made his mark as an important figure in the media of photography, film and video. His works have been acquired by private and public collections, and he has done a number of public art commissions in Norway.

Bilder som semiotikk, som koder, og de gitte kulturelle og biologiske faktorer som former vår verdensanskuelse, er viktige ideer i hans verk.

De senere årene har Brown vært opptatt med en systematisk utforskning av egenskapene til de fire grunnelementene, og hvordan disse beskrives visuelt i poesien. Prosjektene er basert på den franske filosofen Gaston Bachelards (1884–1962) studier over grunnelementene.

 

Per Christian Brown (f 1976) er utdannet ved Kunstakademiet i Oslo. Han har gjennom gruppe- og separatutstillinger i Norge og i utlandet markert seg som en viktig aktør innen mediene fotografi, film og video. Verkene hans er innkjøpt av private og offentlige samlinger, og han har jobbet med flere utsmykkingsprosjekter for offentlige bygg i Norge.
