Jenny-Marie Johnsen born in Vardø in 1960, lives and works in Tromsø. She was educated from Gerlesborgsskolan in Stockholm 1981-83 and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen 1985-92.  In 2015, she received the norwegian state ten-year work grant for established artists. Jenny-Marie Johnsen's works spans between the inner and outer spaces. The projects revolve around connections between micro-and macrocosmos. Eclipse 2002 can relate to a fictional solar eclipse. Venus in Solar Transit 2012 started a series of solar observation that lead to Total Solar Eclipse 2017, a total solar eclipse photographed in Casper, Wyoming, USA. Solar Winds 2018 explores northern lights in the context of solar protuberances. A comission by KORO (Public Art Norway) in 2010 and Troll Research Station Queen Maudland in Antarctica, lead to a collaboration with researchers at the Norwegian Polar Institute. Arctic-Antarctic 2010 is based on thin ice crystals.  Earth Mandala 2017 revolves around millimeters of thin section of rocks. Hexagon, Circle of Life 2017, is a video installation consisting of six monitors with different continents on the globe followed by music composed by Canadian musician Justin St. Charles. 

 

In April 2018 she will be one of three representing Norway with artists from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland at the Nordic Contemporary Art Center in Xiamen, China.

Serien Arktis-Antarktis 2010 bygger på tynnslip av iskjerner. Earth Mandala 2017 dreier seg om millimeter tynne snitt av bergarter. Hexagon, Circle of Life 2017, er en videoinstallasjon i form av seks monitorer med ulike kontinenter på kloden og spesielt tilegnet musikk av den kanadiske musikeren Justin St. Charles.

 

I april 2018 vil hun som en av tre representere Norge ved en nordisk kunstmønstring med kunstnere fra Danmark, Sverige, Norge og Finland ved Nordic Contemporary Art Center in Xiamen, China.
