Ingrid Eggen (b. 1979) lives and works in Oslo. She is educated from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Institutt for Farge; Konstfack, Stockholm and the Valand Academy, Gotheburg. She mainly works with analogue colour photography and video and has commenced experimenting with sculpture during the last year. Eggen makes use of a conceptual approach to the body in her artistic practice. She explores the body’s functions and dysfunctions in relation to communication, representation, control and awareness. With the help of performative methods, Eggen looks into movements and acts where the body’s natural anatomy, non-verbal language and use of gestures are displaced, dissolved and twisted.

 

Ingrid Eggen presents works from two thematically linked projects:

 

 The title «KNOXS» is a wording associated with the meaning of bone. The inspiration for the project comes from acts and rituals formed to interrupt “intellectual” and “rational” thinking. The different components are placed in juxtaposition, forming new compositional connections through adjustment and displacement of the body’s natural anatomy. The controlled body is set into suspense with the body’s unconscious drifts and reflexes, in an offset that’s simultaneously expanding and contracting. The prolonging of the body is seen in contrast with bodily short-circuits.

Ingrid Eggen (f. 1979) bor og arbeider i Oslo. Hun er utdannet fra Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo, Institutt for Farge; Konstfack, Stockholm og Akademin Valand, Gøteborg. Eggen jobber i hovedsak med analogt fargefotografi og video, og har det siste året startet eksperimentering med skulptur.

Eggen benytter en konseptuell tilnærming til kroppen i sin kunstneriske praksis. Hun undersøker kroppens funksjoner og dysfunksjoner i forhold til kommunikasjon, representasjon, kontroll og bevissthet. Ved hjelp av performative metoder undersøker Eggen bevegelse og handlinger der kroppens naturlige anatomi, nonverbale språk og bruk av gester og symboler forskyves, oppløses og fordreies.

Ingrid Eggen presenterer arbeider fra to tematisk linkede prosjekter:

 

 Tittelen «KNOXS» er en ordlyd assosiert med betydningen av knokkel. Prosjektet henter inspirasjon fra handlinger og ritualer utformet for å bryte ned den “intellektuelle” og “rasjonelle” tenkning. Den kontrollerte kroppen settes i spenningsfelt med kroppens ubevisste reflekser og drifter, i et fraspark som utvides og sammentrekkes i begge retninger på en og samme tid. Forlengelser av kroppen spilles opp mot kroppslige kortslutninger. Et sett med hender etterstreber å imitere symboler i et forsøk på opprettelse av nye sammenkoblinger; et potensiale for nytt handlingsrom.
